Chicano Studies Summary
A Summary There are many things that I learned from this class and some an extension from what I’ve already known being an enthusiast in Chicano/Latino studies. For one, I learned about Gloria E. Anzaldúa on Mestiza Consciousness which is a copy of WEB DuBois’s Double Consciousness but from a Chicano perspective. I learned about Jose Coello on What does Chicano mean? and Suzanne Oboler’s The Politics of Labeling. Latino/a Cultural Identities of Self and Other. Coello’s breakdown of Chicano history learn thought me a lot from the roots of Chicano history, the meaning behind the term, why the movement started, as well as the art, music, and poetry that circulated around the movement. Oboler’s book thought me of the meaning of labels and the pros and cons behind labels.
